2019 Platinum+ Invisalign® Provider

What does Platinum+ mean?

Dr. Lauren Olson is proud to be a Platinum+ Invisalign® Provider for 2019! An orthodontist's provider level is determined by their overall experience and the relative number of patients they have treated with Invisalign®. The levels range from VIP to bronze and doctors with the "plus" status have more experience with a given level.

What are Invisalign® clear aligners?

Patients who are in Invisalign® treatment have opted for their teeth to be straightened by a series of clear aligners. Each set of clear aligners gradually move teeth to the location that an orthodontic specialist, like Dr. Lauren Olson, have planned for. If you are a candidate for the aligners, Dr. Olson will create you a custom treatment plan using 3D computer imaging technology. Then, Invisalign® creates those aligners based on Dr. Olson's plan. Each set of aligners is worn for approximately one week before you move to the next set until your teeth are in the desired positions.

Am I a candidate for Invisalign®?

The only way to tell if you are an Invisalign® candidate is to have a consultation with Dr. Lauren Olson. Our consultations are complimentary and we also offer Invisalign® Teen, so age is not a factor. However, there are cases where this treatment is not the best recommendation and Dr. Olson can suggest an alternate treatment plan.

Adult Braces

Adult Orthodontic Options

Adult braces are more popular than ever before. Did you have braces as a child and your teeth have shifted? Or have you always been self-conscious about your smile and want to start treatment? You’re not alone. Many of our patients at Olson Orthodontics are adults.

Types of Adult Braces

We offer multiple types of braces to suit every orthodontic need. Whether you’re looking for traditional metal braces or invisible braces, we have different options to choose from.

Invisalign®

Dr. Lauren specializes in Invisalign clear aligners for practically invisible braces. Invisalign comes in sets of upper and lower aligners that you replace each week. Each set moves your teeth little by little until they’ve reached the desired positions. Adult patients love clear aligners because they are so convenient. During treatment, you can remove your aligners before meals, which means you can eat whatever you like! We will send you home with multiple sets, so office visits are minimal. Patients also report less soreness than with traditional metal braces.

Traditional Braces

Our traditional braces are efficient and comfortable, unlike braces of the past. In addition to standard metal brackets, we also offer self-ligating, rose gold, and clear braces options. Self-ligating braces come without elastic bands or ties. Instead, they use clips to quickly yet gently move teeth into position. Our clear braces also allow you to more discreetly complete treatment.

Acceledent®

To make treatment even faster, we also use Acceledent. This device uses a strong yet slight vibration to stimulate the teeth to move. We’ve been able to help patients complete their treatment 50% faster than ever before!

Invisalign

Invisalign® FAQ

Invisalign is a system of clear aligners that slowly move your teeth without the look of traditional braces. If you’re looking for an alternative to braces that’s just as effective, Invisalign may be a great option for you. We hope the following frequently asked questions will help you get some answers on this popular new treatment type.

How does it work?

First, we will take impressions of your teeth a scan of your teeth and send them it off to a lab to create multiple sets of aligners. Each set is custom-made to adjust your teeth little by little gradually each week. You’ll replace your upper and lower aligners on the same day every week until your teeth move to their final positions.

How long is my treatment time?

Most patients finish treatment in nine 9 to 15 18 months. However, it’s important to note that your exact treatment time will vary depending on the severity of your needs and the health of your teeth and gums. When you come to our office for an evaluation, we can give you a better idea of your treatment length.

When should I wear my aligners?

To have a successful treatment, you must wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours every day. You need to remove your aligners to eat and drink anything other than cold-to-lukewarm water, as well as when you brush and floss your teeth. Be sure to put your aligners back in as soon as you’re done eating or cleaning your teeth to wear them for as close to the recommended hours as possible.

How am I supposed to clean my aligners?

Every morning and night, you should brush your aligners with a soft toothbrush and rinse them in lukewarm water. Be sure to keep your aligners away from hot water, as this can warp the material. If possible, we also recommend brushing after meals. It’s a good idea to keep a travel toothbrush and toothpaste on hand while you’re out of the house to brush more easily during the day. We have a product called Eversmile that is a great cleaner for your aligners, also.

Do I have to wear a retainer?

Yes. After treatment is complete, we will provide you with a retainer to wear to keep your teeth from moving back to their original positions. We strongly encourage patients to wear their retainer for as long as we prescribe. If teeth begin to move back, you risk increasing your treatment costs and extending your treatment length.

What is the cost of Invisalign?

The overall cost of Invisalign can range from patient to patient. Some dental health plans include orthodontic coverage, while others may not. During your initial consultation we can assess your smile and determine your exact treatment plan and insurance benefits to give you a cost estimate.

When can I start?

brushing with braces

Brushing with Braces or Invisalign®

Brushing with braces can take some getting used to. When you get braces or Invisalign, proper oral health is crucial to keeping your teeth and gums healthy throughout treatment. Throughout the day, food and drink accumulate around your orthodontic appliances. Without a thorough cleaning, plaque can build up more easily than without braces and lead to stained teeth, bad breath, cavities, and gingivitis.

To keep your teeth and appliances in good shape, follow these cleaning tips.

Brush your teeth after meals and before bed.

Perhaps the biggest change in your teeth-cleaning habits will be how often you brush. While you’re in treatment, we recommend brushing after every meal. This will ensure that you’re scrubbing off any food particles that may be trapped in your appliances. After a few days, brushing immediately after eating will become a habit.

To make brushing on the go easy, you can carry a travel toothbrush and toothpaste with you. If brushing at work or school isn’t possible, rinse your mouth thoroughly with water to help wash away food particles. If you have Invisalign, we recommending at least rinsing your aligners out if you’re unable to brush before putting them back in after a meal. Be sure to give your teeth and orthodontic appliances a proper brushing at your next earliest convenience.

Get hard-to-reach spots with a proxy brush and super-flossers.

If you’re wearing brackets and wires, a proxy brush is a great tool for cleaning areas around your appliances. If you tend to have heavy plaque buildup, we also recommend trying an Airflosser or WaterPik.

Use a fluoride mouthwash.

Dr. Lauren may have prescribed a prescription fluoride toothpaste for you to use twice daily, or a fluoride rinse to use nightly for thirty seconds. Fluoride helps tooth enamel stay strong, and the act of rinsing helps to ensure any food and plaque you scrubbed while brushing and flossing rinses clean away.

Schedule regular dental checkups.

Regardless of your treatment type, continue to see your dentist every six months as you normally do. Contact your dentist about recommended teeth cleanings.

How does Invisalign ® work?

How Does Invisalign® Work?

At Olson Orthodontics, we are proud providers of Invisalign® and Invisalign Teen®--clear braces options that don’t use brackets and wires!

How does it work? It’s simple. When you come in for your appointment, we’ll custom-make a set of aligners unique to your teeth using 3D computer imaging technology. You’ll wear each set of aligners for about two weeks before putting in the next.

Throughout the day, you can remove the aligners during meals and when you brush and floss your teeth. As you replace each set of aligners, your teeth move slightly each day until they reach the final position we prescribe.

Throughout your treatment, you’ll visit us once every six weeks or so to ensure that treatment is progressing properly. Most people wear their aligners for six to 18 months, but treatment time varies per person.
